Euphorbia kalisana
Euphorbia kalisana is a spiny pseudo-medusoid native to Kenya. This species features a reduced main stem, similar to a medusoid, but with upright arms. With variegated markings throughout the plant, very long main spines, and yellow cyathia, E. kalisana grows into a very unique and stunning specimen.
E. kalisana sits within Euphorbia subgenus Euphorbia section Triacanthium alongside other species of Euphorbia which feature three spines per spine shield as opposed to the typical four spines seen on most spiny Euphorbia. Juvenile specimens feature dual main spines, with mature specimens having these two main spines fused into one.
The specific epithet of "kalisana" is derived from the swahili term "kali sana", meaning "very fierce". This name is derived from the very long main spines covering this species.
These are 1 year old seedlings in 3 inch tree pots.
